I had planned on today being a rest day but my legs were a little sore from yesterday. I wanted to do something nice and easy. I called John and we went for 4.47 in some very strong winds. The pace was relaxed and everything was good.

Hey Scott. How long did it take before you could run without pain again? I am doing the stretching, icing and stair raisers, but achilles is still sore. Do you think I should take the rest of February off and see how it feels on March 1st?

From Scott Zincone on Mon, Feb 11, 2008 at 10:13:34

I remember back in November I had a couple of morning runs, which I am not used to, where my achilles twinged some after I was done. Still ran on it a few more times and the pain progressively got worse each day. But it was still not so bad I could not run. But here is where I admit how naive I am about anatomy. I Googled my symptoms and where the pain was. I was shocked to see it was my achilles that hurt. I thought that was supposed to be my "heel" only. But I did know enough that this was something not to mess around with. So I stopped running for about 3 weeks. When I started again I could still "feel" it, but it did not hurt. I just eased back into my running and now I do not feel it at all.

I still do not think I have answered your question yet, but I was just giving you some background on how it was for me.

I think I was able to get back to running pretty quick considering this type of injury, but I also stopped quick too. Is is possible you could have more than just inflammation..like a tear or something ? Also, I am not sure if you have ever been to Scott Browning's blog, but he gave me a lot of great advice when I had a stress fracture in my femur last year. He seems very knowledgeable on this subject. I believe he is having the same problem right now.

I hope you can get through this before the good weather gets here. I think it will be even harder to deal with when you do not have several feet of snow on the ground.
