Train consistently and smart. Run some local races and hope to lower PR's every once in awhile.

Long-Term Running Goals:

I would love to see a 5:XX for a mile just one more time. Go under 20 in a 5K. And a sub 40 for a 10K.

Born in 1970. Grew up in Richmond, Virginia. Ran high school track and cross country. Also lived in the Outer Banks of North Carolina for a few years. Now living in South Hill, Virginia. Married since 1995 and have two children. Have been a police officer since 1994.

All day long at work I kept thinking I was feeling a twinge in my calf.  But honestly I do not know if the pain was just in my mind and never in my leg.  Ran again today.  Still scared with every step.  I really am looking forward to the day I can just run regularly again.

 Though I have not blogged much the past few days, I have been running.  Still very tentative with the calf.  Always think I am about to feel something with every step.  It is sensitive to the touch, but ok when running so far.

 All in all I am just glad to be running on the roads again.

 Today was my 6th run this week.  The calf still feels ok when running.  The 1st 2 days legs were good.  But they have become a little more sore each day.  They were really hurting by the end of today's run.  Tomorrow is an off day.  And then some more slower and shorter next week as well.

 I started a little faster than I would have liked.  And anyone who sees my bog regularly knows for some reason I tend to get a little faster as each mile passes.  So I slowed down on the 2nd mile and then cruised along until the 6th mile.  I remember looking at my watch at 6 and getting angry with myself for speeding up so much.  Thought I had backed off on the 7th, butturns out I did not.  Said what the heck on 8, and just ran it in to the house for my fastest mile this week.

This run really hurt.  And that was definitely the last thing I needed to do.  I fell victim to having fresh legs from 2 days off and a good tailwind the 1st half of my run.  I was surprised by the time on my 1st mile.  It felt so easy.  The next 2 miles were the same.  Then I turned around and headed into the wind.  But instead of slowing down I tried to maintain.  I hate when I do this.  On the 5th mile I slowed some. But then tried to make it up on the 6th mile.  I was struggling at the end and my legs were hurting.  I am sure I will pay for this the rest of the week.  I do not know why I felt I had to keep up the pace.

And to think only a month ago this pace would have felt fine.  Its funny how hard it can be to get the body into shape and how quickly it will normalize when we are not training.

 Today's run was a little painful.  Legs were sore and achy from yesterday.  I wanted to just bag it after 2 miles, but kept on going.  With every footplant I felt some discomfort.  Not really sure where the 7:35 came from on the last mile.  Did not feel any different than the other miles.

This was a tough run.  Legs felt a little beat up and sore.  From Monday's run I bet.  And I worked Midnight Shift last night.  Only slept 5 hours during the day.  This throws my whole body out of whack.  Everything was off.  Mix in the sore legs and you get a miserable running experience.  Only 5 more all nighters to go.

Very rainy today.  Throw in the achy legs and you get a day in the pool.  I decided not to run on the roads or treadmill.  I wanted some no impact working out so ran in the pool for 40 minutes.  When I got there I realized I forgot my belt..its helps me float.  I could have done the workout without it, but my stride is less like running than it is with it.  So I used one of those noodles.  It worked ok, but my posture was different.  I tried my best to keep my stride length full and lifting my knees.

 Run felt ok.  Legs feel like they are taking the pounding of running a little more than usual.  But my shoes should still be ok based on their mileage.  Hit some tough wind on the 3rd mile on an open area of road.

 Another run I believe was harder than it should have been.  I am hoping to blame much of it on working Midnights.  I am just wanting to run 8:00 miles with an easy effort.  I did just complete a marathon at that pace, now I can hardly go 6 without feeling like I am going to puke.

I'm Back !!!

Last run was on 12/14.  My foot had been hurting most of that week, even though I had not blogged about it.  On 12/15 I only made it 200 yards before giving up because of the pain.  So I took time off.  And when I say time off, I mean it.  No working out of any kind.  I was just so bummed about my string of aches and pains that came on just before and after my marathon.  I cannot remember how long it has been since I was running pain free.  There was just no more fun in running like this.  But today I am starting again.

1st 3 miles felt fine, 4th mile foot hurt again.  By the end of the run it hurt as bad as it did 2 weeks ago.  Bummed again !!

Foot hurt during the night.  Did not sleep well and could feel each time I would wake up.  Seemed to feel a little better as the day went on.

 Got off work late and then we had family over for my daughter's 9th birthday.  So I had to run late..in the dark.

Not sure what happened to me.  Ran way too fast.  I was surprised by the 1st and 2nd miles.  Kind of figured the 3rd felt about right, and the 4th shocked the heck out of me.  I know better than to push myself right now.  I need a long, slow, easy, gradual, relaxed, running routine for the next several weeks.  Just maintain or improve fitness without hurting myself.  And have some fun running again.

Another night time run.  Legs were sore from last night.  Took it a little slower tonight, but really need to ease it up even more on my future runs.  Foot still hurts.

All this time off over the last two months has wreaked havoc on my weight.  It has gone up only 5 or 6 pounds, which does not sound too bad.  But I am definitley showing more weight on my stomach, chest, and face.  I guess the loss of muscle and the addition of fat has offset each other where the scales do not show as much of a change.  But my pants certainly do not fit the same.

Wind blowing extremely hard.  Went to a pond that is surrounded by trees on 3 sides.  It helped disperse the wind a lot.  Each loop is .4 of a mile.  I ran it 8 times.  But the 1.6 running there and back were tough.
