Train consistently and smart. Run some local races and hope to lower PR's every once in awhile.

Long-Term Running Goals:

I would love to see a 5:XX for a mile just one more time. Go under 20 in a 5K. And a sub 40 for a 10K.

Born in 1970. Grew up in Richmond, Virginia. Ran high school track and cross country. Also lived in the Outer Banks of North Carolina for a few years. Now living in South Hill, Virginia. Married since 1995 and have two children. Have been a police officer since 1994.

I have decided I will not swim less than 1 mile for each swim.  I usually can only swim on the week days, so I should have at least 5 miles for the week.  This will be more than I am used to, but I can do it.

Ugh !

Felt bad before, during, and after swim.  This is my hardest day to readjust from working Midnights.  I was hoping I would feel better as I went along but it did not happen.  I am glad I got my mile in though.

Another good swim today.  I miss running.  By the time I can go again, it will be like starting from scratch.  And even though my running fitness will be down, my overall all fitness will not have suffered as much.

Still meeting my goal of at least 1 mile per day of swimming.  Tomorrow is the last day of the week for me.  Too crowded on the weekends to even try.  My arms do not feel sore before a workout, but after a couple of laps I can feel them.  They do get a little better as I go along.  And most noticeably is my breathing.  I used to need to breath every stroke.  But for about 2 weeks now I have been making myself breath every 4 strokes for the entire workout.  This has been hard, but doable.  I really hope this makes a difference when I get to running again.

Did not take a break between strokes.  Swam continuous.  I am thinking about some type of interval workout.  I want to have some hard and medium efforts mixed in with my slow.

Some exciting track and field will be shown on national television this weekend and next.  I am especially excited about the mile run.  Both meets will have strong competitors running.

Swam 1800 yards today, which is 1.02 miles.  I really wanted to set a PR in this.  Considering the amount of swimming I had already done this week I was not sure how I would hold up.  Here are my previous bests over the years:

2002 - 42:16

2003 - 38:14

2004 - no record

2005 - 37:17

2006 - 32:21

2007 - 32:09 set on 5/15/2007

But today I beat them all !  Clocked in at 31:16.13

I have a harder time of finding a pace while swimming compared to running.  Based on my previous years it is easy to see that I really started to train harder in swimming and running in 2006.  Now if I could just get healthy enough to run again I would like to have these same improvements.

Well I got up this morning and decided if I hurried I could get to the pool before it got crowded.  So I was able to put in more laps than I had hoped for this week.  Different work schedules each week will not allow me to put in as much time each week.  But I am glad I am increasing my mileage.

Tomorrow no swimming.  My arms will appreciate the rest.

ESPN2 11pm eastern - Reebox Grand Prix Track Meet, Sunday 1pm on CBS.  Should be some good running.
