After work it was 87f. 1st afternoon under 90f in a couple of weeks. So I decided to try for 10 at an easy pace. At 5 I was starting to feel it a little. At 7 I decided to make the turn home a little early. Between 8 and 9 my mouth was dry and the spit was gone. When I stopped at 9 and walked inside except for my wet clothes there was no new sweat dripping off of me. Started rehydration right away and took a cool shower. But I would have to say the hardest part of the run was my sore quads. Though I have not blogged about it for awhile, my quads hurt on almost every run. Well not yesterday, but most of the others. My left one hurts so often it feels like the stress fracture in my femur did in the early stages before I knew what it was. But since it never gets worse and the other leg hurts too I ruled out another one. I sure wish these quads were not so sore all the time. It really affects the enjoyment and efficiency of my runs. I end up altering my
forms going downhills to diminish the discomfort. And that could lead to an injury I guess.

Oh well, enough of the complaining blog....again !

Scott, nice run, a couple suggestions for the quads: 1) make sure you are stretching them. 2) try using the "stick" or a rolling pin on them to get the knots and soreness out. It will hurt like the dickens, but if it is truly muscular, your quads should feel better the next day. Generally, if my quads are sore, I tend to take it real easy. The other thing that might help is making sure you get out every day. I'm not sure if last week was just a glitch, but noticed you didn't run on Tuesday or Wednesday. From my experience, taking a few days off (excluding my normally scheduled rest day) leaves me more prone to injury as opposed to getting in the steady miles every day, even if it means getting on the treadmill.

Bummer about the quads.

You might invest in a "fuel belt" to keep hydrated. With 75 minutes of running, you should be sipping plenty of water.

Scott, thanks for the welcome the other day. I miss green Virginia. Sorry to hear about the pains.

John - A few months ago there was post on the discussion forum about fuels belts, camel packs, and carrying bottles for fluids. I think a fuel belt would be good for me. Especially since I am used to wearing a thick heavy belt all the time anyway. Maybe its time I spent that $100 gift certificate to Dicks Sporting Goods.

James - Darn it! Guess you can't nothing past bloggers. There was no glitch. I missed 3 days of training last week and the week before. The heat was so bad during the times I had free to run. I just pouted and gave up. I wish I could say it will never happen again. But sometimes I just get into a funk and skip workouts. Luckily I rebound and get it going again soon.

Living in basically the same geographical area as Scott, I can testify that the evenings are quite horrible this time of the year. It is usually still very hot and humidity actually rises in the evening. So even if you wait till 7PM you rarely get below 85F and the humidity is almost at its highest point. It's the same humidity at 7AM when I usually run but it's around 70-75F which makes some difference.

Hang in there Scott!
